Thank you for your interest in joining fellow parishioners to beautify the streets of Downingtown! Please read the following rules and guidelines; then fill out the form to be contacted about upcoming cleanup dates.
St. Joseph’s route is along Lancaster Ave./Business Route 30
between Manor Ave. and the Wawa near Quarry Road.
Guidelines and Rules- We will provide gloves, safety vests, and trash bags.
- Wear brightly colored clothes, long-sleeved shirts and long pants, closed-toe sturdy shoes, sunglasses.
- Bring a small backpack to carry trash bags and your reusable, filled water bottle.
- Participants must be 8 years of age or older. There must be at least one adult (18 years old or older) per eight minors (17 years old or younger). Minors must have parental permission.
- You are volunteering at your own risk. Wear your safety vests and gloves for the entire time. Wear sunscreen and insect repellent, if needed.
- Do not walk in the road. If you see a piece of trash on the road, leave it there. Only pick up along the sides of the road or on the grass up to a fence or a building.
- Do not assume people will slow down when they see you.
- Do not pick up needles or any hazardous waste.
- Do not put tires, wheels, or any exceptionally large objects into the bags. Line them up along the road.
- When your bag is filled or becomes too heavy, tie it shut and place it on the edge of the road.
- Do not pick up cigarette butts (focus on the larger pieces of trash instead).
- Watch out for wildlife. Do not pick up roadkill.
- When removing the provided gloves, grab them at the wrist and turn them inside out, leaving them with the safety vests and extra bags.
- After removing your gloves, do not eat anything or touch your face until you wash your hands with soap and water.
- When you return home, wash your hands. Place all your clothing directly into the washing machine since it might have ticks. Take a long, hot shower or bath. Wash your entire body with soap and check yourself for ticks.
